Vintage Style Rope Knurls
One of my all time favorite machinists, Frank Ford, is in fact a very well known and respected luthier in Palo Alto, California. He administers a website called www.frets.com, an astounding online resource for professionals and amateurs alike, that crosses many disciplines from guitar making, woodworking, and machining, to general shop practice. I'm not overstating it by saying this is probably THE best single shop resource on the web today.
I've learned so much from Frank's practical and clear demonstrations of technique, but this one stands out as being particularly cool - How to make a vintage style rope knurl.
Making a good quality rope knurl is something that I've always wanted to have in the arsenal, given that it appears in so many classic clock designs, as well as classic tools. So this is my effort, using the techniques and methods described by Frank. As usual, there's always extra parts to getting the final job done, so the main project video is accompanied by 2 spare parts videos just below.
